Once again, I find myself thinking: where in the world did summer go?! I swear, each year, it goes by in a flash and especially so this year. It’s August now, and school just started, meaning that I’ve got to get it together (to the best of my abilities) before the start of my final year as an undergrad. In preparation, I’ve come up with a list of things of what I consider essentials.
If you’re like me and you have a hard time remembering a bunch of things at once, a planner is crucial to your success. With so many assignments and obligations lined up, it’s easy to get flustered and stress over organization. I personally like leather planners that are hard to accidentally crush in your backpack. I also really like ones with plenty of space on the side for extra notes or a to-do list.
Headphones are great for multiple occasions. Perhaps I’m just a socially awkward potato, but I really need a nice pair to walk around campus with so that I can internally jam out to songs and avoid contact with people (especially when I’m in a “please-don’t-talk-to-me-I-want-to-be-alone” mood). Headphones are also an essential if you like to study with music in the background. I, however, have a horrible habit of losing/breaking headphones, so I never really get super nice ones. 😓
My campus is huge, which means I have to walk a whole lot…outdoors. And let me tell you – Texas heat is very unforgiving. If you live near me or anywhere particularly hot, be sure to buy some good ol’ spf. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to stay looking young and wrinkle-free for as long as possible, and sun damage is not going to help me accomplish that. What will help is protecting my skin from harsh UV rays (yes, even on cloudy days and during the winter). At the moment, I’m using Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50 PA++++. It’s inexpensive, light, and doesn’t leave a white cast.
The thirst is real and not just because of that cute boy in your class. Some days can be particularly long and tiring, so it’s important to stay hydrated at all times. Drinking water is legit one of the best things you can do for your body, so get some sort of bottle you can fill up whenever necessary. In fact, bringing one around with you will probably encourage you to drink more often.
5. Everyday Shoes
I absolutely adore shoes and I’m pretty anal about keeping my favorite pairs in the best condition possible. The pair that I regularly wear to campus, however, always ends up looking battered by the end of the year. I think that a comfortable pair of sneakers or everyday shoes is something everyone should have in order to prevent unwanted blisters or cramps when you’re most likely late to class already (you should always be prepared to run like the wind…you know, just in case).
I always forget this one and need to make sure to get a USB for sure this time around. You never know when you’re going to need to print an assignment last-minute. Or, you may need to save a project on there that you later have to present. Either way, they’re super handy and not difficult to get or carry around. Only thing is that, at least for me, they’re kind of hard to not lose so be sure to put them somewhere secure to avoid that.
7. Pencil Bag
Not sure if you’ve noticed yet, but I have a really bad tendency to lose things. I promise, I’m pretty clean and organized – it’s just that I tend to sometimes place things without thinking at all only to later ponder about where it was left. Writing utensils and other stationary items are definitely things that I have a hard time keeping altogether, which is why I think some sort of pencil bag is a good idea.
8. A Good Mindset
Most importantly, come back to school with the desire to work hard (and play hard)! In the end, positive vibes and the desire to do well is all you really need to “survive” the school year. A good mindset will not only make it easier to enjoy classes but will also help you remain driven throughout the school year!
Anyways, to all of you heading back to school this fall, good luck (to be honest, we all need some)!
Bisous à tous! ♡
